Stock Steady is a patent pending, ATA & USA Clay Target Sports approved device developed by trap shooters, Dale & Joanna Crouch, for all clay target shooters in 2024. Early on in our trap shooting experience, we recognized the importance of consistent gun mount and that a very slight change in shoulder placement - to the left, right, up or down - equates to a much larger change by the time the shot reaches the clay. Stock Steady to the rescue! Once mounted on a shooting vest, sturdy jacket or padded shirt, Stock Steady becomes a permanent placeholder that the butt of your shotgun fits into perfectly. As a matter of fact, Stock Steady is strong enough to hold your gun up! Not that you would ever need to use it for that reason, but it is. Take a look:
Stock Steady is made of a hardened rubber that's pliable and will not tear or break easily. It's soft enough that it is not affected by shotgun recoil. It's held on a shooting vest with 4 heavy duty tacks with rubber tips, all included with your purchase. Stock Steady is for men, women and youth shooters! Perhaps because the company name is Her Side Co, we've heard a couple of folks say the product is just for women, and that is absolutely not the case. In fact, more men than women are using it today! To-date, we've sold Stock Steady to shooters in almost every state within the USA, in Canada, and even New Zealand and Australia!

More than 35 high school teams featuring over 550 student athletes are expected for the Pennsylvania Trap Shooting State Tournament! Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I don't like to wear a vest or it's too hot to wear one... Can I attach Stock Steady to a T-shirt?
A. Technically, yes you can. However, it will not give you the desired result because a T-shirt easily moves! Stock Steady needs to be mounted on clothing that won't move around. We feel it's really all about what you're looking for. If you want to shoot well and not have to worry about consistent gun mount, it's worth wearing a vest or at least a structured/padded shirt. Update 1/2026 - We are currently working on developing a shoulder mounted harness that Stock Steady can be mounted to so that a vest is not necessary. Coming soon!
Q. I have 2 or 3 shooting vests, can I remove Stock Steady and move it to another vest?
A. Yes, you can. It's fairly easy to move. However, most people find it much easier to buy a 2nd or 3rd device so that it can be left in place all of the time. We've had several new Stock Steady shooters purchase one device and come back to us later that same day asking for a 2nd or 3rd for another jacket or vest!
Q. Can I buy Stock Steady at an event and shoot the event with it on that same day?
A. Yes, you can, but it's not recommended. Stock Steady takes 25 - 100 shots to get used to. Even more to feel totally confident with it on. Everyone is different, but it is an adjustment. Think of it like when you move your rib or change your pad. You don't just make a change and go right out and shoot an important event. You practice with it first and that's what you should do with Stock Steady, too.
Q. Can you please post an instructional video?
A. YES! We are working on it! We hope to post a video soon that walks you through the mounting of Stock Steady :) You can always contact us or one of our above partners for assistance. An instruction sheet comes in the package as well as parts to mount Stock Steady.
